Anas Jamal Mahmoud Al-Sharif was a Palestinian journalist and videographer for Al Jazeera Arabic, born in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza.
From early in the war, he risked his life to report from the frontlines of Gaza and became known for courageous, raw, and urgent coverage from northern Gaza. In 2024, a team he worked with at Reuters was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for their impactful images documenting the conflict.
Despite repeated threats, smear campaigns, and accusations, Anas continued reporting. On July 31, 2024, he reported on the killing of his colleague Ismail al-Ghoul—whose death he witnessed and covered—highlighting the dangers faced by media in Gaza.
On August 10, 2025, Anas Al-Sharif was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on a media tent outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Several of his Al Jazeera colleagues and his nephew were also killed in the same strike.
In a message posted posthumously, Al-Sharif wrote:
“If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice … Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers.”
His life was a testament to bearing witness, telling the stories of his people under siege, and resisting erasure through truth. This commemorative garment is a tribute to his memory, his sacrifice, and the continued struggle for justice and media freedom.
