Shireen Abu Akleh - Hoodie

Shireen Abu Akleh was one of the most prominent Palestinian journalists of her generation. Born in Jerusalem, she studied journalism at Yarmouk University in Jordan and began her career in radio before joining Al Jazeera in 1997. From that moment, she became a household name across the Arab world.

For decades, Shireen’s voice and presence brought the reality of Palestine into homes everywhere. She was known for her calm and precise reporting, her compassion for ordinary people, and her courage in covering some of the most dangerous moments of conflict. Her work inspired a generation of Arab women to enter journalism, breaking barriers and setting an example of professionalism and integrity.

On May 11, 2022, while covering an Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, Shireen was shot and killed despite wearing her clearly marked PRESS vest and helmet. Her assassination shocked the world and sparked an outpouring of grief from Palestinians and admirers everywhere.

Shireen Abu Akleh lives on as a symbol of courage, truth, and dignity. She was not only a journalist but a voice for the voiceless, a chronicler of history, and a defender of her people’s right to be seen and heard.
